An eye examination produces a lot of numbers: vision for each eye, eye pressure, sphere, cylinder and axis, plus findings for the front and back of the eye. On paper those numbers are hard to compare from one visit to the next, which matters most for patients with glaucoma or changing glasses. Eye clinic software records each exam in a structured form, prints the glasses prescription and shows the history at a glance.
What an eye exam form should capture
- Visual acuity for each eye.
- Intraocular pressure (IOP), highlighted in red when it is above 21.
- Refraction: sphere, cylinder and axis for each eye.
- Anterior segment (slit-lamp) and fundus findings, with suggested answers to speed up typing.
- A "mark all normal" button for routine checks.
Glasses prescriptions in one click
A "copy from refraction" button fills in the glasses prescription from the exam, and it prints on its own on the clinic's letterhead, ready for the optician. The system rejects mistakes such as a cylinder value without an axis.
History that helps with glaucoma and follow-ups
When a new exam starts, the last visit is summarised at the top, and a visit history sits below each exam. For a glaucoma patient you can see how eye pressure has changed over time without searching through old files. Follow-up dates from the exam feed into WhatsApp or SMS reminders.
Paper records vs eye clinic software
| Task | Paper records | Eye clinic software |
|---|---|---|
| Exam | Free-hand notes | Structured form for acuity, IOP, refraction and findings |
| High IOP | Easy to miss | Shown in red above 21 |
| Glasses Rx | Copied by hand | Filled from refraction and printed separately |
| History | Search through old files | Last visit summary and visit history on screen |
| Follow-up | Patient forgets | Reminders from the follow-up date |
Who uses it
Ophthalmologists, optometrists and eye clinics, from a single consulting room to a clinic with several doctors. Optometrists can be given access to record exams while reception handles appointments and billing, and an eye clinic's data is completely separate from any other clinic's.
Built on a full clinic system
The eye module sits on top of patient records, tokens, prescriptions with an Urdu option, billing, online booking and reminders, so the whole clinic runs on one system.
Our eye clinic software
Our eye module is part of the clinic management system offered through CareSuite 380. New eye clinics start with eye services, fees and common medicines already loaded, and can add online booking from day one (see our guide to online appointment booking). Book a free demo for your eye clinic.
