Sales leaders buy CRMs to manage their pipeline. Sales reps experience CRMs as a tax on their time. Every adoption failure starts there.
Stop asking for data the rep can't use
If a field doesn't change what a rep does next, delete the field. The forecast meeting wants to know expected close date and amount. The rep needs to know what to do today. Those are not the same view.
Three habits that drive adoption
- 1Auto-log everything (email, calls, calendar) so reps don't enter it twice.
- 2Surface the next-best action on the lead/deal screen — not in a separate report.
- 3Give reps a personal pipeline view that shows their commission math.
A signal to watch
When reps update their CRM before their forecast call, you have adoption. When they update it during the call, you don't.
Adoption is a UX problem disguised as a process problem. Solve the rep's morning, and the leader's reports get filled in for free.
